Culbertson delays final water-tank work as weather, valve replacement and leaks persist

Council members received multiple updates in 2020 on repair work to the town’s million-gallon water tank.

Town staff reported a contract with Carr Coatings and work from Pittsburg Tanks to address interior coating and sealing, but contractors cannot complete final sealing until nighttime and daytime temperatures consistently exceed 50°F. The minutes note a 12" valve that needs replacement at an estimated $3,000–$4,000, and council members discussed sequencing so the tank only needs to be drained once.

In December council and the town engineer reported the tank was leaking and that Pittsburg Tanks would need to return to address workmanship issues. Council repeatedly listed the tank repair on agendas and tied remaining work scheduling to seasonal temperatures.
