Culbertson council moves to shorten street-parking limit, adopts updated ordinance

The Culbertson Town Council reviewed and approved an amended parking ordinance in 2020 that shortens the maximum consecutive street-parking period and tightens trailer rules.

Councilors discussed citizen complaints about vehicles and trailers parked on town streets longer than 30 days. Members proposed shortening the allowable period to 15 days and requiring trailers or vehicles with hitches to be connected to a tow vehicle while parked on streets. Council asked staff to add a process for service-worker exceptions through an office permit and to remove seasonal exception dates so the ordinance applies year-round.

Mayor Larry Crowder gave the first and second readings at separate meetings with edits requested by council; council moved to approve the second reading and adopt the ordinance after public notice and required readings.

Next steps: the town clerk will publish notice and notify utility billing accounts of the ordinance change; council planned enforcement steps including mailers to PO Box holders and coordination with the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department.
