4‑H attendance, crop and dairy educator programs highlighted; bilingual vaccine workshop planned

Extension educators briefed the Agriculture Extension Education Committee on June 20 about recent and upcoming programs serving youth, farmers and dairy workers in Walworth County.

Janelle, the county 4‑H and youth development educator, said the Walworth County 4‑H camp ran June 25–28 at Upham Woods in the Wisconsin Dells and drew 85 campers, 25 youth counselors and 17 adult chaperones. "We had 85 campers, 25 counselors, and 17 adult chaperones," she said, and described camp activities from STEM to archery and canoeing.

Janelle also reported the annual shooting sports "shoot off" occurred the Saturday after the Fourth with 66 participants, and she urged residents to visit the Walworth County Fair where extension will host a promotional table and run judging and youth building activities.

Regional crop educator Josh said staff are organizing the 3rd annual Wisconsin Water Soil Health (WASH) conference in December and a weed management workshop at the Arlington research farm in early September focused on herbicide resistance and conservation cropping systems. He noted Badger Crop Connect continues as a virtual program on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month for timely crop and soil updates and continuing education credits.

Regional dairy educator Lisonbee described a two‑day bilingual workshop planned for Aug. 27–28 on proper administration of vaccines and medicines in dairy and beef cattle (one day in English, one day in Spanish), including hands‑on demonstrations using silicone and foam models and a bilingual veterinarian co‑presenter. "This is gonna be... August 27–28... one day in English, one day in Spanish," Lisonbee said, adding the program will be offered in multiple regions if veterinarian availability allows.
