East Haven library trustees approve minutes, plan HVAC bid process after flood delay

The East Haven Public Library Board of Trustees met July 16 and approved the minutes of the June 16 meeting. Amy Derbacher called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m., Danielle Blackstone moved to approve the minutes and Melissa Meagher seconded; the motion carried.

Library Director Sarah Mallory reported that the 2025–26 fiscal year ended on a positive note. She told trustees there were three line items that were not fully expended and that those funds will be returned to the town.

Mallory updated the board on a capital project: an HVAC grant awarded last year has been extended to December 2026 because of a flood. She said she is working with the town to prepare bid invitations and hopes a system replacement can be completed by the fall, subject to the town’s procurement process and timeline.

Mallory also said screens, projectors and speakers in both community rooms need replacement. She has requested quotes from two companies, received one quote that was too high, and is awaiting the second estimate; trustees agreed to revisit the item at the August meeting. In addition, Mallory reported damaged tiles in the DeMayo Room and is researching replacement costs.

The board confirmed the August meeting schedule; the next meeting is set for Aug. 20. Christopher Brown moved to adjourn, Marissa Velazquez seconded, and Derbacher adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
