Rockbridge County EDA adopts June minutes and financial report; airport feasibility study due this summer

At the start of its July 20 meeting the Rockbridge County Economic Development Authority approved routine governance items, adopting the June 15 meeting minutes and accepting the financial summary report by unanimous votes.

Rosalea Potter moved to adopt the minutes as presented; Anne Herring seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Later, Stacy Stevens moved to adopt the financial report, which Ms. Herring seconded; that motion also passed unanimously.

Secretary Brandy Flint reviewed the financial summary and, at Vice-Chair James “Jay” Williams’ request, outlined funding mechanisms available to EDAs, including bond issuance and sale or lease of property. During discussion Mr. Thomas Vandiver asked staff to investigate whether donating property to the EDA or to Rockbridge County carries tax benefits for donors.

Flint reviewed priority projects and said an airport feasibility study is slated to be completed by the end of the summer. The board reiterated support for regional collaboration but emphasized advancing housing opportunities within Rockbridge County.

The meeting concluded with a motion by Ms. Herring and a second by Ms. Potter to adjourn; that motion passed unanimously and the EDA adjourned at 9:27 a.m.
