Commission on Aging discusses ADU guidance and senior-housing options; Planning & Zoning to review ADU materials in August

At the July 9 meeting, members of the East Hampton Commission on Aging discussed accessory dwelling unit (ADU) guidance and local housing issues that could affect seniors.

Commissioners reported that an ADU proclamation was well received by the town's Planning & Zoning department. Ms. Hodge reviewed a document that will be presented to Planning & Zoning in August outlining ADU-related materials and the commission discussed ADU regulations and potential local implications.

Members also reviewed Housing Authority business: the commission was told there is one current opening on the Housing Authority that will be filled soon and that the waiting list is closed. Commissioners raised the need to explore options for additional senior housing and discussed who in town should lead a process to identify and pursue opportunities.

Other agenda items touched on community-facing programs: planning for a Health & Wellness expo continues and the commission will host monthly "TBell Tuesdays" educational programs. The commission did not adopt new housing policy at the meeting; the ADU document will next be considered by Planning & Zoning in August.
