Ambulance Authority reports rising maintenance costs, delayed write-offs; new unit on order

The Coffee County Ambulance Authority reviewed June operations and finances at its July 16 meeting, reporting 989 calls for the month and fleet and financial issues the board said will affect near-term planning.

Director Michael Bonner reported June metrics: 989 calls; average chute time 74 seconds; average scene time 15 minutes 14 seconds; average total call time 47 minutes 13 seconds. He said the busiest day was Wednesday and the busiest hour was 1–2 p.m. Bonner told members maintenance costs have risen because units in the fleet are aging; he said a new ambulance is on order.

Board members flagged a state grant opportunity of $304,000 for a new ambulance but raised a timing concern. Frank Watkins said the grant requires taking possession by October 2027 and expressed doubt the authority could acquire and accept delivery within the stated window.

Tim Stubblefield said Marianna’s office was closed and that June write-offs were not prepared; the quarterly financial report was deferred for the same reason. The board approved routine motions recorded in the minutes, including adoption of the agenda and approval of June 18 minutes, and adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
