Water board approves minimum sewer adjustment of 2,000 gallons for swimming pools

The Oliver Springs water board voted to approve an ordinance amendment on July 16 that sets a minimum threshold for the town's annual, one-time sewer adjustment for swimming pools.

The ordinance (2026-07-16) amends a prior 2024 provision governing a single annual sewer adjustment when a pool causes an atypical sewer charge. Staff told the board that the earlier rule produced requests for full adjustments even for very small inflatable pools (15–20 gallons), creating paperwork and administrative burden. To reduce that workload and focus adjustments on larger installations, staff recommended a 2,000-gallon minimum. Staff also provided an estimated adjustment amount of $36.90 for that threshold.

Mister Miller moved to approve the amendment; Miss Devaney seconded. A roll call recorded 'Yes' votes from Robert Miller, Jeff Banks, Charlie Bailey, Theresa Hammond and Terry Holland.
