Ansonia Board approves food service contract with modest raises and one personal day

The Ansonia Board of Education on July 8 approved a food service contract that includes one additional personal day, a 3% total wage increase spread over four years, and higher employee healthcare cost‑sharing. The vote passed 6–0 with one member absent.

Superintendent DiBacco told the Board that there were no language changes to the contract and that the listed adjustments were limited to wages and benefits. He said the food service agreement does not affect the local budget. Board member Dr. Steven Adamowski raised a procedural concern that the contract was not attached to the meeting agenda and asked whether it could be displayed; DiBacco said he did not have a copy available at that moment.

The contract, as summarized to the Board, adds one personal day for affected staff and spreads a total 3% wage increase over four years. DiBacco also said there would be an increase in employee healthcare cost‑sharing; he emphasized the contract terms for wages and benefits were the primary changes. After discussion and confirmation of the changes, Board President Chris Phipps requested a motion to approve the contract and the Board voted to adopt it.

The recorded vote showed Dr. Steven Adamowski, Mr. Rich Bshara, Mr. David Knapp, Ms. Beth Laberge, Mr. Chris Phipps and Ms. Sharon Voroschak voting in favor; Stephanie Ocasio‑Gonzalez was absent for the vote. The Board took no further action on amendment language or budgetary reallocations during the meeting.

The Board moved on to consider the custodial contract following the vote. The meeting adjourned at about 6:19 p.m.
