Board approves $16.76 million sheltering-services contract with limited county share

The board approved Resolution 19, a contract for sheltering services administered by the Department of Citizen Services, Division of Family Assistance and Benefits. Christian Porter, the presenting administrative analyst, said the contract runs through Dec. 31, 2027, carries a not-to-exceed value of $16,758,610 and carries a county share of $539,908.

Porter told commissioners that much of the funding will be paid through federal and state benefit programs tied to client eligibility (for example, TANF and general assistance), and that the new contract will add capacity. Porter said the existing contract provides 412 beds; this new contract adds 365 beds bringing the county back to previous capacity levels (about 835 beds in prior years). Commissioners asked whether funding levels have declined; Porter said funding is similar to last year.

Vice President and other commissioners thanked the department for stabilizing capacity. The measure passed on roll call.
