Bethany Beach council approves three construction and engineering contracts totaling about $450,293

At its July 17 meeting the Bethany Beach Town Council approved three separate contracts covering plaza rehabilitation, a crosswalk completion and engineering design for pedestrian ramps.

Boardwalk Pedestrian Plaza: The council accepted the low bid from Delaware Environmental Construction Services for $153,370.70 to rehabilitate the plaza. Town staff said consultant reference checks were positive and that construction oversight/inspection arrangements will be finalized before work begins. The manager discussed an October–November start aiming for completion before winter events.

Route 1/26 northern crosswalk: The council approved Adel Construction Company Inc.’s low bid of $176,922 to complete the northern crosswalk at the Route 1/26 intersection. Staff noted prior, successful experience with Adel and said the town may explore adding a third light pending DelDOT review and any lumen/study requirements.

Pedestrian access ramps engineering: The council approved a $120,000 contract with Rommel, Klepper & Call LLP to prepare construction documents and surveys for rehabilitation of five pedestrian access ramps. Staff reported $80,000 remains in the existing line item and that an additional supplement of approximately $41,000 will likely be required to complete the work. Councilors discussed ramp-specific design matters, including narrowing and congestion at Parkwood Street that could be addressed during the design process.

All three contracts were approved by voice vote during the meeting; the transcript records the council’s affirmative 'Aye' and 'motion carries' but does not include detailed roll-call tallies. Town staff said they will notify nearby businesses and the public as construction milestones approach.
