Mosquito control manager calls new Orange County murals a "milestone" for public health

The manager of Orange County Mosquito Control said the agency’s new murals, which depict dragonflies, are “a milestone” and serve as a visible reminder of the county’s commitment to public health.

"Our murals portray dragonflies, which are the voracious predators of mosquitoes that we love so much," the manager said, adding that the artwork "reminds us every day that we are to be good stewards of the environment." The manager identified themself as the manager of the program and said staff were pleased with the installation.

A presenter involved with the project said participating in public art gives staff a chance to "get out of the office and into the street, and meet people that we normally wouldn't encounter." The presenter also said the murals bring nature and wildlife into the street so people who might not otherwise see those animals can appreciate them "larger than life."

A resident who spoke about the project called it "something new" and "a new beginning," and said they were "interested to see how this facility is gonna collaborate with the community to ... continue to push our community in the right direction."
