The Marinette Historic Preservation Commission discussed the planned installation of the Meridian Plate Monument at its July 16, 2026 meeting. Commissioner Mark Davenport said, "the monument is now in the City’s possession," and described early plans for its placement and preparation.
Davenport told commissioners he is working to site the monument near available electrical service so he can core the bottom of the monument, and that he has spoken with City Engineer Brian Miller about the radius and the area around an existing light pole. Davenport said the installation may be completed in two steps and that he will follow up with the City Engineer this week to finalize details.
No formal motion or vote to approve an installation contract or specific site was recorded during the meeting. Commissioners listed the installation on the items to be updated at the next Historic Preservation Commission meeting, and Davenport said he will report back after consulting with the City Engineer.
The commission will consider an update on the monument installation at its next scheduled meeting on Aug. 17, 2026.
