Committee backs PG&E land sale to city and easement for McLaren Park, sending both items to full Board

The Budget and Finance Committee on July 15 voted to send to the full Board two interdependent resolutions with PG&E: (1) a purchase and sale agreement allowing Rec Park to acquire a PG&E parcel at 5000 Hunters Point Boulevard for $575,000 to include the parcel in the India Basin Waterfront Park; and (2) the sale of an approximately 15‑foot‑wide underground easement beneath Visitation Avenue in McLaren Park to PG&E for $950,000 to permit installation of a segment of the Egbert switching station project.

Rec Park and Supervisor Shamann Walton’s office described both transactions as essential to completing the India Basin project as originally envisioned — removing an eyesore transmission tower and restoring a planned primary park entry — and as a funding source for a pedestrian and bicycle safety project in McLaren Park. Yael Golan (Rec Park deputy director of planning) said PG&E already removed the tower at its own cost, and that the easement will not reduce above‑ground park space; PG&E representatives said the sale proceeds will support McLaren safety improvements and CPUC approval remains pending for finalization.

Community leaders and partners offered public comment in support: Jacqueline Bryant (A. Philip Randolph Institute) and Kurt Grimes recounted years of community engagement in project planning and endorsed the deeds as finishing a long‑standing community vision. After public comment the Committee voted to refer both resolutions to the full Board with recommendation (Dorsey, Sauter, Chan — ayes).
