The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board announced a public hearing for June 17 to consider levying additional or rolling forward existing millage rates after reassessment. The Chair read the formal notice saying the hearing will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular board meeting at 6:00 p.m., both at LaPlace Elementary School.
The announcement included the board’s revenue estimate: $31,742,812.35 in tax revenues projected for the coming year, with an estimated increase attributable to the millage change of $9,684,171.99. The notice said the board may adopt adjusted millage rates without further voter approval or roll forward rates not to exceed the prior year’s maximum under Article 7, Section 23(C) of the Louisiana Constitution and R.S. 47:1705(B).
Board members and staff did not adopt any millage rates at the May 26 meeting; the June 17 hearing will give the public a formal opportunity to comment before any vote. The board’s announcement sets the schedule and the published revenue estimates that will frame that deliberation.
