Rebecca Johnson appointed interim superintendent of St. John the Baptist Parish schools

The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board on May 12 voted to appoint Mrs. Rebecca Johnson as Interim Superintendent. Mrs. DeFrancesch nominated Johnson and, after roll call, the motion carried with 10 members voting yes and one abstention (Johnson).

After the vote, Johnson introduced herself to the public and provided a brief summary of her experience in education, and she thanked the Board for its confidence in her to lead the district during the transition.

Board President Nia Mitchell-Williams said an Executive Committee would meet May 17 to negotiate a contract with Johnson. The Board also noted routine administrative items and a schedule for an upcoming meeting to consider contract terms.

This appointment was taken in open session following an extended agenda of business and committee actions; the Board did not record further amendments to the appointment during the meeting.
