The Town of Jackson Board of Trustees met July 8 at the Jackson Fire Station and voted to set a public meeting for Monday, Aug. 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jackson Fire Department to review the 2018–2019 Budget vs. Actual.
The board — Mayor Pro Tem Don Havard; trustees James Foreman, Rafe Stewart and Jim Parker; and Secretary-Treasurer Holli Gilmore — approved multiple routine items. James Foreman moved to accept the minutes with the addition of Martin Macdaimid (Code Enforcement) and Jim Parker (sewer rates); Rafe Stewart seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board also accepted the financial report and scheduled the budget public meeting.
Rafe Stewart moved, and James Foreman seconded, a motion to pay the bills presented to the board during the session.
In other actions, the board appointed Alan Passman as the town’s representative to the East Feliciana Fire District after a motion from James Foreman, seconded by Rafe Stewart. The recorded vote on that appointment was Foreman and Stewart in favor and Parker abstaining.
Trustees also authorized LAMATS to collect yearly insurance license premiums on a motion by Jim Parker, seconded by Rafe Stewart. The board approved a motion, also moved by Parker and seconded by Stewart, allowing a daiquiri shop and a nail salon to open at the Plaza owned by Jim Odom on Highway 10, with the board stipulating that all permit requirements must be met before either business may open.
The board recorded a motion to allow construction of a metal building at 1860 Sycamore Street; the motion was made on the record but the transcript does not explicitly record the final tally for that item. During the meeting Martin Macdaimid asked about the town’s procedures for enforcing codes and ordinances; the trustees discussed adopting enforcement procedures and the possibility of using a dedicated code enforcement officer.
James Foreman moved to adjourn; Rafe Stewart seconded and the meeting concluded with all in favor. The board’s next scheduled public action on the budget is the Aug. 6 public meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Jackson Fire Department.
