Town council to appoint candidate named in transcript to planning-and-zoning vacancy after commissioners debate process

Chair Malia Collins told commissioners on July 16 that town council plans to appoint the nominee identified in the transcript as "Tom Heisero Heiserot" at its next meeting on Tuesday.

Collins said she was disappointed with how the prior recommendation was handled and urged commissioners to treat applicants and recommendations with “thoughtfulness and professionalism.” "I'm disappointed with the way that the last recommendation went as it was not delivered with the thoughtfulness and professionalism that the individual in this role deserves," she said.

Commissioner Marshall apologized for how others perceived his remarks and defended the commission’s right to judge fit for the role. "I would like to say that I'm very, very, sorry that you saw it that way... I have no problem with working with Tom," Marshall said, adding he looked forward to working with the appointee and that the process concerns should be addressed going forward.

The session did not include a formal vote on the appointment; Collins said the council will make the formal appointment at its next meeting.
