Commissioners agree to add monthly speed-trailer reports to Police Commission agenda

Commissioner Tom King asked the Police Commission on July 13 to begin receiving monthly reports that show where the department’s speed trailers are deployed, the speed statistics they record and how many vehicles are detected.

Chief Patrick Deely told the commission that the change “would be very informative” and said the data can be added to the monthly statistics the department already distributes. The request arose after multiple speed complaints and deployment requests were raised at recent meetings.

Commissioner King framed the proposal as a transparency and tracking measure: he said regular, itemized reporting would let the commission monitor deployments and outcomes over time. The commission did not take a formal vote on a policy change at the meeting; the chief offered to implement the reporting in monthly packets.

The item follows routine traffic-enforcement questions the commission has received from residents and complements existing budget and equipment oversight. The commission will next consider how the monthly report will be formatted and when it will first appear in packet materials.
