ZBA continues hearing on 333 Durfee Street conversion to August

The Zoning Board of Appeals on July 16 voted to continue the application for 333 Durfee Street after the applicant said plan revisions were needed.

Chair Joseph Ferreira opened the item, identifying the owner as Louis Gonzales and noting the petition seeks a variance to convert an existing automotive repair shop into a three‑family dwelling and expand a nonconforming five‑family to eight units with a special permit to reduce required parking. Engineer Jeff Tallman told the board the team is investigating using the building’s lower level for parking, which “would in turn mean that we would have to go higher with the structure,” and that change would require re‑advertising the petition.

Planning director Daniel Agie confirmed the application would need to be re‑advertised but does not require a new filing. Tallman asked the board to continue the matter so engineers can revise the plan; the board agreed and moved the hearing to the August 20 meeting.

The continuation preserves the board’s ability to require additional variances or conditions after the revised plan is reviewed and re‑noticed. The board did not take a final vote on the variance or parking relief at the July 16 meeting.
