Warren awards road contract, approves micro surfacing purchase and secures trail grant

On June 18 the Warren Township Committee approved several infrastructure and grant actions. The Committee approved Resolution No. 2026-155 awarding the contract for Mountainview Road Improvements Phase II (Round Top to King George Road) on a motion by Deputy Mayor Kian, seconded by Committeeman Croson, with a unanimous roll-call vote. The Committee also approved Resolution No. 2026-156 authorizing the purchase of road micro surfacing on a motion by Committeeman McCarey, seconded by Committeeman Croson, also passed unanimously.

Committeeman Croson reported the 2026 Road Overlay Program contract has been awarded and that since 2022 the Township has allocated nearly $5 million to pave 23 miles of local roads with an additional five miles scheduled this year. NJDOT-funded paving is under way on phases of Mountainview Road and King George Road, and grant applications have been submitted for Reinman Road and Mountain Avenue.

In other grant news, the Township was awarded a $570,080 matching grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Garden State Preservation Trust for Dealaman Trail and Pond improvements; the award is contingent upon legislative appropriation. The Committee also adopted the consent agenda covering Resolutions 2026-157 through 2026-185, which included multiple budget revenue insertions, donation acknowledgements, liquor license renewals and inactive license renewals, appointments, police promotions, vehicle purchases, contract renewals, and authorization to submit additional NJDOT grant applications for road improvements.

Bill Gilbert asked about timing for Mountainview Road Phase II and was advised the Township anticipates work this fall. The Committee asked Sewer Director Christian Kastrud to provide summaries for ongoing sewer EDU transfer and reduction requests for future review. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
