Wachusett School Committee approves reappointments, MOAs, contracts and fund authorizations

At its June meeting the Wachusett Regional School Committee approved a series of personnel contracts, collective-bargaining ratifications and routine financial authorizations.

The committee approved a one-year reappointment of Joan DeAngelis as Director of Special Education and Student Services and a three-year reappointment of John Kroll as Deputy Superintendent. The chair called for a voice vote on each motion and both motions passed.

Members also authorized the chair and superintendent to sign a one-year extension of regional lease agreements with member towns while the administration pursues a longer-term five-year lease structure; the motion passed by voice vote. The committee ratified the memorandum of agreement with the Wachusett Regional Education Association (WREA) and also ratified the WREA Unit B contract; both ratifications passed.

The committee approved a one-year contract extension with Community Health Connections, Inc., and Dr. Leonard A. Weiss; the motion passed with one abstention (Malia). The chair noted routine contract-renewal processes and said the administration had asked the committee to reauthorize the extension to continue school-based services.

Financial authorizations included the listed FY27 revolving funds (authorized under MGL Chapter 44 Section 53 1/2) and the FY27 student activity funds (MGL Chapter 71 Section 47). A committee member asked about a remaining balance in the driver's-education revolving fund; district staff explained the residual funds would be used to pay the Central Mass Safety Council for remaining student driving hours.

The committee also approved reimbursement for committee members and the superintendent to attend the 2026 MASC/MASS joint conference in Danvers; one travel-related motion recorded three abstentions. All other consent-agenda items, including acceptance of a $500 gift from the Town of Princeton's Massachusetts Cultural Council to Thomas Prince School and approval of minutes and policy 5252 (personnel management; restraint prevention and behavior support), passed by voice vote.

No motions failed. Where abstentions were recorded the minutes identify the number of abstentions or the member where stated; the committee directed staff to record and report back on follow-up items raised during discussion (for example, lease-term proposals and driver's-education revolving-fund balances).
