Selectboard grants Sweetwater Distillery parking use, approves Pickle Festival permits

Kenneth Young, owner and operator of Sweetwater Distillery, asked the Selectboard for permission to use eight to nine parking spaces on Main Street for a private event on Aug. 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. He said all tastings would remain inside the distillery and that sidewalks would remain passable. Chief Dave Rice of the Winchester Police Department told the board he had no concerns. The board granted the request unanimously.

Kevin Bazan, president of the Pickle Festival Committee, requested use of Town Hall, the lawn surrounding the Conant Library, Memorial Park next to the Conant Library and the bank property; he also sought permission for festival signage on the town-hall lawn and closure of Parker Street (Main Street to Durkee Street) and Durkee Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the 28th Annual Pickle Festival. Selectman Theresa Sepe moved to approve the festival uses and street closures; Selectman Herbert C. Stephens seconded and the motion carried 5–0.

Selectman Ben Kilanski asked Town Administrator T.A. Miner to arrange for the large tree on the front lawn to be trimmed before the festival. The board thanked the Pickle Festival Committee for providing No Parking signs used previously at the WFA/WFD Carnival.
