Camden County elections board certifies May 19 primary after provisional ballot rulings, approves June 16 runoff early voting schedule

The Camden County Board of Elections & Registration certified the May 19, 2026 General Primary & Nonpartisan Election on May 22 after staff and the board adjudicated provisional ballots and confirmed the vote tally.

Acting Elections Supervisor Rockney Carter told the board the primary had a total of 8,018 voters: 3,873 cast ballots on election day and 4,145 cast via advance in-person or absentee-by-mail. He also reported three provisional ballots and five UOCAVA ballots submitted for military voters, with three UOCAVA ballots outstanding at the time of the meeting and a 5 p.m. deadline for receipt.

The board recessed so staff could process provisional ballots. Staff recommended rejecting one provisional ballot (Anthony Battle) and accepting two (Robin Williams and Susan McNamara). Vernon Higgins moved to follow staff recommendations; motions to reject Battle’s ballot and to accept the other two carried unanimously among members present.

Returning from the recess, the board approved pre-certification and, later in the meeting, moved and unanimously approved final certification of the May 19 election. Board members completed certification forms at the meeting. Chair Julia McCollough called out a risk-limiting audit scheduled for May 29 as part of the post-election process.

Separately, the board approved the June 16 runoff early voting schedule as presented. The board also listed upcoming administrative dates tied to election timelines, including the May 29 audit, the June 16 runoff, and a special called meeting June 22.

The board’s actions on provisional ballots, pre-certification and certification finalized the county’s canvass of the May 19 primary for local administration purposes; outstanding UOCAVA ballots remained under review within statutory deadlines.
