Waterford police commission approves two warning signs and extends conditional job offer

Thomas Sheridan, chairman of the Board of Police Commissioners, called the July 13 meeting to order and the board accepted the June 8 meeting minutes.

Traffic Officer M. Devine presented two requests for permanent warning signs: a "Blind Child" sign for Laurel Crest Drive and a "Blind Person" sign near 73 Spithead Road. Commissioner J. Dimmock moved and Commissioner M. Gelinas seconded each motion; both passed unanimously. The motions authorize installation of the signs as requested.

The commission received routine departmental reports for June, including K-9, youth services, investigative services, training, support services, patrol, animal control and community engagement. The board also reviewed correspondence and signed a letter to the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) Moderator concerning municipal reporting of ICE access.

After an executive session for police candidate interviews, the board voted to extend a conditional offer to Alexander Wojcik for the current vacancy, subject to completion of the hiring process and background investigation. The motion to extend the offer was made by Commissioner J. Dimmock and seconded by Commissioner C. Gamble; it passed unanimously.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which passed at 6:21 p.m.

What happens next: the job offer is contingent on standard post-offer screenings and the department will proceed with onboarding if those checks are completed successfully. The signed RTM letter and routine reports are part of the meeting record.
