Youth civic engagement, July 4 review and upcoming National Night Out discussed

A local college-age advocate told the council on July 16 that South Lebanon needs more outreach to boost voter participation among younger residents. Gabriella Wilson, who said she represents Keep Knocking, asked the city to collaborate on events and registration drives for people roughly ages 20–27.

Council members and Mayor Burke responded with appreciation and offered to connect Wilson with precinct volunteers. The council then discussed post‑July 4 follow-up: the mayor said a fireworks misfire caused a 15–20 minute delay but did not cause injuries and that the vendor issued a 50% refund and will make up the incident next year.

Mayor Burke thanked the events committee and volunteers and listed donated items provided at the 4th of July celebration. She also announced a veterans dinner on July 21 at the Warren County Welcome Hall (free for veterans and family) and reminded the public that committees and volunteer opportunities are open.

Several council members invited residents to National Night Out on August 7 at Veterans Park and discussed logistics such as road closures, tents and volunteer needs. Sergeant Adams outlined closures for West Broadway and setup times and said the fire department will assist with tenting.
