Resident tells La Marque council constituents are being told they can't reach elected officials

James Overstein, identifying himself as a La Marque resident at 2012 Jeradonna Street, used the citizens' participation period to say several residents had been told they could not speak with the mayor about city matters and urged the council to improve access.

"...my wife does a ministry ... a tenant over there was complained about the water bill... they couldn't talk to the councilman... that looks bad on y'all... makes it look like y'all don't want to, hear what they have to say," Overstein said as he gave his name and address.

The mayor acknowledged the concern, asked staff member Holly to reiterate the city's public-comment policy, and thanked Overstein. The transcript records the mayor's acknowledgement and a request that staff restate the policy; no change to policy or immediate action plan was recorded during the meeting.

The council's citizens' participation rules stated speakers must provide their full legal name and address, are limited to three minutes, and will receive a 30-second warning. The mayor also reminded remote participants how to unmute and announced the in-person podium location for speakers.
