Council reviews extensive Peach Days plan; moves most activities to Mayor’s Park

Organizers told the council they plan to hold the 125th annual Peach Days primarily at Mayor’s Park this year and presented a tentative schedule of events, vendor hours, youth and adult softball, parade logistics and a list of volunteer needs.

Council member Kelly said the fairgrounds will be used for select events (e.g., adult games) where needed, but the primary venue shift was required because electrical boxes for playgrounds will not be ready before the event. Activities include a youth baseball game on Sept. 10, community dinner and adult slow-pitch softball on Sept. 11, a parade and vendors on Sept. 12, bounce houses and a foam cannon, and smaller games and contests. Kelly emphasized the need for maintenance support for field preparation, leaky irrigation repairs, concession stand readiness (food-handling permits), and table/stage logistics.

Fire and public-works staff discussed fireworks staging and a likely site to the west that will require clearing and safety preparation; the fire chief has been proactive in door-to-door notifications for prior incidents and will coordinate safety plans. Council advised staff to put work orders in early for setup and to coordinate barricades and route closures with the county sheriff and highway patrol for parade management.

The council offered logistical help, suggested volunteers and community groups, and asked staff to finalize a vendor map, utility checklist and volunteer roster. The organizer will return with finalized plans and any permits or insurance certificates needed prior to the event.
