Farrant lays out 125th Peach Days plan: events shifted to Mayor's Park; organizers seek volunteers and logistics help

An organizer for Peach Days (speaker 8) presented a detailed schedule and site plan for the community's 125th Peach Days celebration, proposing to move most activities to Mayor's Park and outlining needs for volunteers, field preparation and safety logistics.

The organizer said youth baseball will take place Thursday, Sept. 10, an adult slow-pitch softball game Friday evening, and a parade and vendor activities Saturday (Sept. 11). Planned attractions include vendors (11 a.m.–6 p.m.), bounce houses (11 a.m.–4 p.m.), a foam cannon, foot races, a car show and a bingo night to close the event. She asked maintenance staff to prepare fields and repair a water leak at the fairgrounds so the fairground field can be used.

"Peach Days is rolling, and it's gonna be a good time," the organizer said. She said the concession stand at Myers Park has been cleaned and will be used by event volunteers; volunteers and youth-council members will staff concessions and activities.

Council members discussed staging and road closures, asking for barricades and for the county to assist if necessary. Organizers noted that some legacy events such as horse racing will not be held this year because of space constraints; council members said they hope to restore those events in future years.

Other logistics discussed included electricity (no permanent electrical boxes are available on the outfield; vendors plan to bring generators), a stage (available from storage), and the need to set up some structures the week before the event. Organizers also proposed a community scavenger hunt and a youth baseball game on Thursday, a dinner and fireworks Friday, and a parade on Saturday.

The council offered operational support: maintenance work orders, traffic controls and public-safety coordination. Council members encouraged broad volunteer involvement and suggested documenting placements and procedures for future iterations.

The organizer asked the council to treat the clean, maintained concession stand as a continuing asset and to keep it available for community use beyond Peach Days. The meeting closed the item with thanks and general support for the event plan.
