Board tells Cairo Chiropractic: red color may be acceptable but reduce sign size

The Design Review Board reviewed a late sign submittal for Cairo Chiropractic, representing Dr. Ryan Williams, and gave informal guidance rather than a formal vote.

Board members and staff discussed that projecting (side-mounted) signs are calculated differently from wall signs and that the district generally allows about 6 square feet for projecting signs; the applicant's current design was described in the packet as roughly 14 square feet. Phil and other board members said size would need to be reduced to meet standards or the applicant could seek a variance.

On color, board members said they have granted red in previous cases and indicated general amenability to red for this application. "I would be amenable to the variance on the red, but not the size," one board member said, urging the applicant to submit a smaller design that would meet the district limit or return for a formal variance request.

The board offered practical suggestions (changing location or reducing dimensions) and noted projecting signs' mounting and sidewalk clearance constraints; because this was a late submission the board provided guidance for redesign rather than taking formal action.
