Chair John Steber led discussion about updating the district’s 2020 Comprehensive Lake Management Plan (CLMP), noting the district is one year behind its required five-year update tied to aquatic plant management activities. Commissioners said the district has had difficulty reaching their Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) contact, Scott Van Egeren, who would provide guidance for the update.
Commissioners discussed hiring an outside consultant to assist with revising the CLMP; estimates discussed ranged from $2,000 to $5,000. A motion to explore contracting a consultant passed unanimously, and Steber agreed to lead that effort. Commissioners also noted that the recent aquatic plant survey (final report due in December) would inform the CLMP revision.
Separately, the board discussed plans for the DNR-required dam inspection in 2027. John Steber said the engineering study is expected to cost under $10,000 and that the DNR requires the district to appoint a curator — a single point of contact for the DNR during the engineering study. Steber said he would consider stepping down from the committee to allow another person to assume curator responsibilities; no appointment was made during the meeting.
