Board grants promoter permits for OC Rock & Ride events with security and ID conditions

The Worcester County Board of License Commissioners on July 15 approved promoter licenses for two OC Rock & Ride events: a multi‑day motorcycle festival at the Ocean City inlet parking lot (Sept. 9–12) and a related event at the Ocean City Convention Center (Sept. 9–13). The approvals carry conditions the board required last year and that promoters agreed to again: promoter‑provided security, strict ID checks and wristbands, prevention of patrons leaving the licensed area with alcohol, and close coordination with Ocean City Police and other partners.

Promoters Hugh Cropper and Matt and Tyler Odachowsky described multilayered safety measures including contracted security teams, spotters at bars, wristband distribution and wristband scans, multiple controlled entrances, cameras for security review and onsite safety officers. “This is a very controlled event,” said attorney Hugh Cropper, noting the promoters had negotiated terms with the mayor and city council that constrain alcohol sales to stop at 10:30 p.m. each day.

Tim Price, a former Ocean City firefighter and police officer hired as a safety officer for the event, described his role overseeing life‑safety plans and security coordination. Security contractor Kevin Chmoleski described experience on large events and confirmed coordination with local police and volunteer staff to manage entrances, counters and exits.

The inlet permit authorizes alcohol sales in defined paid areas with wristband and ID enforcement and explicitly reiterates that no patrons may leave the licensed premise with alcoholic beverages. The convention‑center permit covers daytime vendor and meet‑and‑greet operations with no live entertainment and similar security and ID requirements. The board marked preliminary site plans and hours as exhibits and approved both promoter licenses by motion.

Next steps: promoters must deliver final security and vendor lists and confirm coordination details with police and licensing staff as a condition of permit implementation.
