Prince George board backs proposal to adopt Kiddom K–5 math materials, seeks county funds for $848,025 purchase

District curriculum staff recommended adopting the Kiddom K–5 math program for kindergarten through fifth grade after teacher review and local vetting of the state-approved vendor list. The recommended adoption would run seven years and include consumable workbooks for K–2 and both consumables and digital access for grades 3–5, plus classroom center kits and manipulatives to support small-group instruction.

"Kiddom was the only vendor that provided appropriate alignment to the Virginia SOLs," staff said, summarizing a process that included teacher and interventionist review and parent access to sample kits. Staff noted teachers asked for ready-made center kits to reduce time spent creating materials for small-group instruction.

The proposed adoption cost is $848,025.51. Staff told the board that the funds are available at the county level and requested board consensus to ask the county to appropriate the money for the purchase. Several board members indicated support for the request and for the adoption based on alignment with the division's pacing guide and teacher feedback.

Staff also said they had sought to limit digital access where possible but were told the vendor does not offer a non-digital option for grades 3–5. Board members agreed to pursue county funding and to discuss details at the upcoming work session where budget priorities will be considered.
