Board orders cost analysis after Renewable landfill notifies of ~39% price increase

At its July 16 meeting the Warrick County Solid Waste Management District board directed staff to analyze the financial impact of a multi‑year price increase from Renewable, the landfill operator, after staff said the increase reaches roughly 39%.

Controller (speaker 5) told the board Renewable notified the district that the price the district pays to have hauled waste accepted at the Davis County landfill will rise over three years and that the notice shows about a 39% increase. Chair (speaker 2) and counsel (speaker 1) said the current services agreement includes price‑control language and recommended staff compare the district’s cost per ton as a contracted deliverer against current contracted haul costs and associated vehicle and labor expenses. Counsel (speaker 1) recommended the district’s representatives, Reagan and Freddie, and counsel pull the numbers and return to the board with findings.

Chair (speaker 2) asked for consensus to allow staff to run the analysis; the board granted that consensus and asked staff to bring the results back so the board can decide whether to respond to Renewable’s notice. No formal vote on contract changes was taken at the meeting.

The board’s next steps are financial modeling by staff and a future board discussion comparing contract delivery costs and district-run haul scenarios.
