Rental-registry ad hoc committee previews new portal features; board asks to explore code-enforcement integration

The rental-registry ad hoc committee reported to the board on July 16 that a redesigned registry user interface is scheduled for deployment September 1 and that the vendor (3Di) will give a demonstration to the full board in August.

Committee members said the new interface is cleaner and will be accompanied by outreach and training for landlords. Members also raised the possibility of linking the registry with other departmental records such as code-enforcement and quadrennial inspection data so the portal can surface inspection history and improve transparency for tenants.

Board members and public commenters raised concerns that quadrennial inspection schedules have lagged in some instances and asked staff to convene planning and code-enforcement leadership to discuss feasible data-sharing options. Staff said they would work with the chair and vice chair to schedule a meeting and to pursue legal guidance on what ownership and ownership-interest fields can be added to the registry.

The committee will present survey results and a fuller demonstration of the portal at an upcoming meeting, and staff indicated further options for cross-departmental data integration would be explored.
