Board approves 2026–27 work plan, student‑attendance policies and routine action items

The Marysville Exempted Village School District Board of Education approved its board goals and work plan for the 2026–27 school year at the July 16 meeting, adopting measures that include twice‑yearly building visits, student representation to the board, more student‑led presentations and a monthly 'Let's Talk' engagement series starting in August.

"The sessions are going to be designed to last no more than 1 hour... and we'll try to keep time available for folks to ask questions," Superintendent Dr. Howard said while outlining the communication plan that administration will post to the district website and social channels. The board voted to approve the work plan by roll call.

The board also approved two policies governing student absences/excuses and truancy. Dr. Howard noted a legal requirement that those policies be approved by Aug. 1. "This update moves absence language into the absence policy and out of the truancy policy," he said.

On routine business, trustees approved draft minutes from the June 18 regular meeting and June 23 special meeting, accepted treasurer action items including final fiscal‑year cash flows and several donations (notably a $33,000 per‑year contribution for English‑learners support from Nikon Express and NX Automotive), and approved superintendent action items including HR hires, the bus‑stop set and substitute hourly rates for the coming school year. All motions were approved on roll call.

What happens next: administration will post the 'Let's Talk' schedule (first session Aug. 6) and return policy and work‑plan items as needed for follow‑up and implementation reporting.
