Council approves property transfers, appointments and several budget and contract measures; schedules special meeting for grant deadline

The Clarksburg City Council approved multiple actions in a single session, moving forward on property transfers, appointments and budgetary and contract items.

Property and purchase actions: Council authorized a good-faith offer of $350,000 to the Board of Education for 2 Stadium Drive (referred to as Heightfield). A separate ordinance transferring 765 Glendale Avenue from the city to the Clarksburg Land Reuse Agency (LRA) was adopted and the city manager was authorized to execute the deed.

Appointments and budget actions: Council approved the appointment of Dolores Jackson to the Clarksburg Harrison Regional Housing Authority and accepted a recommendation to form an audit procurement committee consisting of council member Jerry Riffle, city manager Tiffany Fell, finance director Kim Karakosis, assistant finance director Sherry Greathouse, and project manager Steve Felice.

Resolutions and finance: Council approved a resolution revising the coal severance budget for FY 2026–27 and also approved a revision to the city budget for FY 2026–27.

Contracts and procurement: Council approved change orders for asbestos abatement and demolition: $6,700 for 423 Bend Street and $16,500 for 741 Locust Street, awarding a combined $23,200 change order to Safe Company Environmental Services, Inc., under contract #3.

Safety and scheduling: Council approved a resolution to create a safety committee to coordinate preparations for large events and code-enforcement support and voted to cancel the regular Aug. 6 meeting and to call a special meeting the week of Aug. 10 so staff could meet a grant application deadline.

Most of the items were approved on motions that were moved and seconded and carried by voice vote; some items were routine first readings and will return for later consideration.
