Chair tables American Legion flag burn pit proposal at Hill Of Heroes pending more information

At a meeting that began at 6:03 p.m., the chair moved to table a proposal from the American Legion to install a burn pit at Hill Of Heroes for flag-burning ceremonies, saying the committee had received a rendering but lacked key details and that a staff contact was absent.

The chair said the group had previously tabled the item and repeated concerns about how much trash the pit might collect and how it would look. "They gave us a rendering," the chair said, and emphasized the need for a secure cover: "It's gonna have to have a locking lid of some sort." Committee members raised worries about children climbing on the structure and suggested consulting the fire department before proceeding.
