Dawson County approves claims, authorizes audit letter, OKs bridge inspection contract and issues purchase card to public defender

The Dawson County Board of Commissioners on July 15 approved a slate of fiscal and administrative items, including vendor claims, an audit engagement letter, a bridge inspection agreement and a purchase card for the county public defender.

The board voted unanimously to approve the Treasurer’s Receipts totaling $652,885.10 and to allow payment of claims presented at the meeting. Claims reported in the minutes included totals and notable line items: a total claims figure of $545,303.18 across funds, General Fund vendor claims listed at $345,353.64 (including a $55,906.37 Axon Enterprise license fee and a $53,044 Region II Services annual payment), Roads vendor claims of $86,024.41, and visitor promotion and development disbursements. The board approved the claims by motion from Commissioner Rod Reynolds, seconded by Commissioner Bill Stewart, with Commissioners Reynolds, Stewart, Swanson and Chairman PJ Jacobson voting aye.

Commissioner Bill Stewart moved and Commissioner Kevin Swanson seconded a motion authorizing Chairman PJ Jacobson to sign the county’s Audit Engagement Letter; the board voted unanimously to approve the authorization.

Patrick Tarr, the county Public Defender, requested and received approval for issuance of a US Bank purchase card. The motion to issue the card, made by Commissioner Bill Stewart and seconded by Commissioner Kevin Swanson, passed unanimously.

Highway Superintendent Mark Christiansen presented the 2026 Bridge Inspection Agreement with Oak Creek Engineering. Commissioner Rod Reynolds moved and Commissioner Bill Stewart seconded to approve the agreement and authorize Chairman Jacobson to sign; the board voted aye and the motion carried.

All motions recorded in the minutes passed by unanimous vote of the four commissioners present. The meeting was called to order at 9:04 a.m. and adjourned at 9:27 a.m.
