Waukesha Utility OKs $946,055.64 Water‑main Contract for Luke Bourne–Walton Project

The Waukesha Water Utility Commission unanimously approved a unit‑price contract plus a 1% city administrative fee totaling $946,055.64 for the utility’s portion of the Luke Bourne and Walton Reconstruction Project.

Staff member Matt, who presented the bid results, said the work would replace existing water main and add a loop from Bourne to Walton to eliminate a dead end that has experienced repeated breaks. "This project was brought to you back in March, due to some, more breaks on Luke Street," Matt said, describing the rationale for the replacement and the portion the utility will fund.

The bids were opened June 26 and three bidders submitted proposals; the project had already been approved by the Board of Public Works on July 9 and was scheduled for common council action on July 21 if approved by the Water Utility Commission. Staff said the utility’s portion is coordinated with the city resurfacing project and that costs are shared with roadway work where applicable.

Commissioners asked whether the utility’s portion includes park restoration where the new main crosses a park; staff confirmed the utility is responsible for the water‑portion restoration where it cuts through park areas. After discussion, the commission voted to approve the contract and related administrative fee.

The commission’s vote was recorded as unanimous among members present. The common council was scheduled to take related action on July 21.
