The Sparta Beer Board convened during the regular meeting and approved an on-premise beer permit for KLM Cycle Design, a proposed bike shop and event venue at 8 Depot Street. The applicant, Barry Klein, told the board he plans family-oriented "bike nights" that will include food and music and said he wants to serve beer at outdoor events on the premises.
Klein described operational safeguards: an ID check and issuance of armbands for alcohol service, trained staff with ABC licenses, and firm enforcement to prevent underage or excessive drinking. "I just wanna be able to serve beer when I have the events at the venue," Klein said, adding that events will include food trucks or on-site cooking and that he takes licensing and service responsibility seriously.
The Beer Board received a motion and second and approved the permit. Following the vote, the Beer Board concluded its business and the meeting reconvened as the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
KLM Cycle Design’s application was presented under the beer-board agenda; the board did not attach conditions to the permit in the minutes beyond the applicant’s description of planned operations.
