Upshur County Commission approves Request for Bids to sell former Hampton Community Building

The Upshur County Commission on July 9 approved publishing a Request for Bids for the possible sale of the former Hampton Community Building at 156 Hampton Road.

County Administrator Tabatha R. Perry told the commissioners that state procedure changes permit sale by bid and that per West Virginia law the minimum bid should be set at one and one-half times the assessed value, which she said equals $36,270.00. Publication dates were set for July 15 and July 22, 2026; final bids are due by 4:00 p.m. on July 31, 2026, and bids will be opened at 9:15 a.m. on Aug. 6, 2026. The commission retained full discretion whether to accept any bid.

The motion to publish the Request for Bids was made by Commissioner Samuel R. Nolte and seconded by Commissioner Douglas K. Bush; the motion carried unanimously. The county packet includes a copy of the bid notice and related appraisal information.

If accepted, the sale would proceed under the terms advertised; the commission did not commit to accepting a particular bid at the July 9 meeting. Further information including the bid packet will be posted per the commission’s standard public-notice procedures.
