The Upshur County Commission voted July 9 to enter an Order placing a proposed amendment to the county Fire Service Fee on the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election ballot.
County Administrator Tabatha R. Perry and County Clerk Carol J. Smith reviewed the required timeline and legal advertising. Ms. Smith said the order must be posted 90 days before the election as a Class II legal advertisement; staff published the required notices on June 24 and July 1, 2026. She advised that the ballot choice verbiage will read “For Amendment” or “For No Amendment.” The referendum will appear on the countywide ballot but not on the City of Buckhannon ballot.
The motion to place the question on the ballot was approved on a motion by Commissioner Douglas K. Bush, seconded by Commissioner Samuel R. Nolte; the vote was unanimous. The commission’s packet includes the published notices and a copy of the order.
