Redevelopment commission approves demolition contract, museum repairs and downtown safety work

The Logansport City Redevelopment Commission met to review updated financial reports, accept several TIF-related payments and approve multiple resolutions affecting downtown redevelopment and property cleanup.

Chair opened the meeting and noted the correct packet had been resent by e-mail shortly before the start. In the financial briefing, the chair said the commission expects to receive an additional $230,561 this year — a 13% increase — and reviewed projections for Lexington Village and other TIF funds. Commission members then voted to accept the financial reports.

Why it matters: The approvals fund demolition and repair work intended to clear blighted properties, support downtown businesses and prepare key public spaces for events and safe truck access at the Farmer’s Market. The meeting also set a special session to open sealed bids for a renovated property the commission intends to sell to support career-center scholarships.

Commissioners discussed procurement and compliance details, including instances where a low bid lacked required documentation and therefore was deemed noncompliant. On the East Market demolition item, staff recommended awarding to the fully documented higher bidder citing the site’s complexity and shared walls. On the Farmer’s Market item, staff said the Community Foundation will pay for the physical gates and bollards while the commission authorized site prep and related downtown TIF work.

Next steps: A special meeting was scheduled for August 6 (11 a.m.) to publish and open sealed bids for a renovated property the commission intends to sell; staff will coordinate demolition schedules, asbestos surveys and utility work as needed.
