Norton City board approves second-reading policies, advances 0.75% earned-income tax resolution

The Norton City Board met and unanimously approved a slate of procedural items, including second readings of five policies and a resolution to proceed on a proposed 0.75% earned-income tax that the board said would raise $3,007,507 annually.

At the opening, the Chair led the Pledge of Allegiance and the meeting recorded roll-call attendance: Missus Bennett, Mister Inks and Missus Statz were present; Mister Dodomonic and Missus Webb were absent. The Chair proposed removing item 6, an executive session, saying it was not needed that day; the board approved the revised agenda 3-0.

The board considered board business on the agenda’s second-reading items. The Chair presented letters 1 through 5 as the second reading of five policies and called for approval; after a motion and second the board approved the policies on a 3-0 roll call.

During discussion of letter b under board business, a committee member described the item as “a resolution to proceed, 0.75% earned income tax that will raise $3,007,507 annually.” The board then approved letter b by motion and a 3-0 roll call vote.

The board also approved a superintendent recommendation (letter a, number 1) and a consent-agenda letter b by unanimous votes. The Chair announced there was no need for an executive session and the board voted to adjourn, again 3-0.

The meeting ended with brief thanks and adjournment. Recorded votes on each motion were unanimous per the roll calls taken during the meeting; no public comments were made.
