Mebane honors reelected councilmembers, city attorney and announces assistant police chief's retirement

Mebane leaders used the December council meeting to recognize reelected officials, long service and an upcoming retirement.

Mayor Hooks said Jonathan White, Tim Bradley and Montrina Hadley were reelected in the 2025 municipal elections to four‑year terms; the mayor added that Tim Bradley was sworn in as mayor pro tem. "We wanna congratulate councilwoman Hadley on this incredible honor," Hooks said, referring to Hadley’s Order of the Longleaf Pine presented by Governor Josh Stein in recognition of exceptional community service.

Hooks also recognized City Attorney Lawson Brown, noting this year marks Brown’s 50th year practicing law and his 11 years serving as city attorney, and thanked him for service to the city and the region. The council honored Assistant Police Chief Allen Byrd with a resolution; Hooks said Byrd will retire on Jan. 1, 2026, after nearly 29 years in law enforcement and will be presented his badge and sidearm upon retirement.

The announcements were ceremonial recognitions; no personnel actions or replacements were announced during the update.
