Highway superintendent updates commissioners on Geddes Oil Road, wetland credits and bridge costs

Highway Superintendent Doug Cimpl updated the Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners on several transportation and right‑of‑way matters. Cimpl reviewed the Geddes Oil Road project status and said county staff are in ongoing discussions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers about wetland credit requirements affecting project compliance and mitigation options.

Cimpl presented preliminary cost comparisons for the Academy bridge: a culvert replacement option with costs around $337,000 and a full new bridge option with costs around $550,000. He also reminded the board that 911 signage across the county is the county’s responsibility.

On a related agenda item, the board approved a County Right of Way application for Golden West Telecommunications (motion by Commissioner Nick Stotz, second by Vice Chairman Kory Standy). The board heard a Randall Community Water District update on planned countywide water lines but took no formal action on those plans at this meeting.
