The Quartzsite Town Council approved the Quartzsite Police Department's recommendation to install two stop signs at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Sunset Street and convert the intersection to a four-way stop.
A police representative told council the department had received complaints about vehicle speeds and driver compliance at the intersection and said the four-way stop should reduce speeds and improve predictability for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. "A four way stop is expected to provide safer and more predictable traffic movement for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists," the department representative said.
Council moved to approve the installation; staff said the Police Department would coordinate installation and any necessary pavement markings and warning signage. Council members noted nearby sight-line issues and reiterated the department's plan to include supplemental pavement markings and warning signs.
The motion passed on a council vote and instructions were given to the police department to proceed with coordination and installation.
