Council approves first amendment to public defender agreement

Council approved the first amendment to the professional services agreement with Fred H. Welch, who provides public defender services for the town magistrate court. The amendment includes a modest compensation change to maintain continuity of representation.

Council members noted that Mr. Welch has provided service for several years and that the adjustment was reflected in the budget. A motion to approve the amendment was made and seconded and the council carried the motion by voice vote.

Staff will finalize the amended agreement so the town can continue contracting for public defense services in the magistrate court.
