Mayor brings citizen offer to improve Stamping Ground welcome signs; easement issue to be reviewed

Mayor Jennifer Jones told the Stamping Ground commission on June 5 that a resident has offered to fund upgrades to the town's "Welcome to Stamping Ground" signs, but the work would require commission approval and a permit.

The offer emerged during the regular meeting at Stamping Ground City Hall. Jones said the citizen would cover costs but that the commission needed to confirm whether the city retains an easement for one of the signs before approving any work. City Clerk Peggy Angel was asked to gather contact information for local stone wall builders who have been working nearby so the commission can discuss specifics with the resident.

Attorney Zach Osborne said he would consult with Attorney Hoffman about the legal status of the easement, a step commissioners said was needed before any permit or formal approval. The commission decided it would be best to invite the resident to a future meeting to present details and answer questions.

The discussion recorded no formal vote on the signs. Next steps are for the clerk to collect contractor contacts, for the attorney to report back on the easement question, and for staff to place the matter on a future agenda so the resident can be invited to present a proposal.
